Knowing when to consult a professional homeopath means recognizing the differences between acute and chronic symptoms. This is important because you can support acute illnesses yourself with proper use of homeopathic remedies. For chronic symptoms, you need a professional homeopath.
Acute symptoms
Acute symptoms are those that are usually short-term, come on quickly and typically follow a recent exposure or accident. Acute symptoms will usually resolve on their own with time even if you don’t intervene with any kind of support. Acute symptoms are those associated with colds, infections, accidents, injuries or surgeries, and acute shock or grief. For instance, earaches, teething, food poisoning, flu and other contagious illnesses, and insect bites or stings are considered acute.

Chronic symptoms
On the other hand, chronic symptoms are long-term, come on gradually and are often the result of pre-disposition, family history, or personal health factors. Chronic symptoms usually persist or worsen over time without proper support and are associated with deeper, long-standing conditions. For instance, allergies, migraines, menstrual problems, sleep difficulties, poor energy, autoimmune diseases, and mental and emotional conditions are considered chronic.
When acute symptoms become chronic
Now, when acute illnesses persist, become more frequent or recur in the same way, then it represents a chronic imbalance even if you feel well between the occurrences. Recurring infections, frequent illnesses, injuries that don’t heal well, and symptoms persisting for weeks or months are actually considered chronic. For instance, repeated ear infections, recurring strep throat or urinary tract infections, or bronchitis or pneumonia every winter are considered chronic.
Susceptibility
The real problem isn’t the incidents themselves but your susceptibility that makes them happen over and over again. Whether you use an antibiotic, herb or natural supplement, or homeopathic remedy, the symptoms will keep coming back. That is, until you receive chronic care from a professional homeopath.
So, when do you need a professional homeopath? A good rule is if you’ve turned to a medical professional for it before or an acute doesn’t yield to good home use of homeopathy, then you should consult a homeopath.
